Obituary For Douglas Wayne Granger
Douglas Wayne Granger passed away on March 24, 2024 in Asheville, NC in the arms of his loving son, Joseph. Douglas was born on August 31, 1961 in Newark, NJ to Richard J Granger and Ruth Stralkus Granger. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Granger.
Douglas was a 1979 graduate of Dudley Senior High School and graduated from NC State University in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Douglas served as President of his local chapter of Theta Tau fraternity, an engineering fraternity. Douglas also served time in the Peace Corp in Western Samoa.
Douglas owned and operated DG Solar in Greensboro, NC. He ultimately discovered his true gifts and passion; working with children. Douglas became a HS Chemistry teacher and tennis coach at several local high schools.
Douglas was the neighborhood dad, naming himself Favre Manning and serving as the permanent neighborhood quarterback for the kids. He was an avid handball and tennis player but his number one love was disc golf. He was a member of the Garden Groove Shot Shapers. He also loved a good game of ping pong.
Douglas is survived by his son, Joseph Granger of Portland, Oregon; mother, Ruth Short of Greensboro, NC; sister, Laura Granger of Cripple Creek, CO: niece, Amy-Beth Hoarty and nephew, Cary Hoarty.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday April 2, 2024 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Following the service the family will receive friends.
