Obituary For Emma "Carol" Carolyn Ettwein
Emma Carolyn Ettwein, 82 of Hendersonville, NC passed away at home on Saturday, April 15, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Roy Soloman and Sistenia Maria Cresanta Goforth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Edgar Ettwein and her daughter, Susan Staggers.
Carol served in the US Navy and retired from Selee Corportation. She was also the co-owner of the Black Forest Restaurant in Arden, NC along with her two sons.
Carol will be remembered as a great mother, a perfect hostess, a born restaurateur, and a woman who had a way with words. Her biscuits were tall, fluffy, and delicious. It was always suspected she intentionally withheld the one secret ingredient needed to replicate her recipe. Her Thanksgiving pies were legendary. Friends, family, and Black Forest patrons would line up early for a piece of her mincemeat, pumpkin, or pecan pies. There was not a crossword puzzle that could defeat her masterful pen.
She was an independent woman who lived her life on her own terms and made her own way. A wonderful and delightful person who shared her love of life with all.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving sons, George Roy Ettwein of Hendersonville, and William “Bill” Lars Ettwein and wife Leslie of Arden, NC; grandson, Sean Sprinkle, Zack and Mike Molby; granddaughters, Ava Molby, Aliyah Renee Gowing and husband Ross, and Isabelle Rose Ettwein; and great-grandson, Luca Gowing; brother, John Goforth of Hendersonville; sister, Mary Ann Goforth of Mars Hill; and many special friends.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2-4pm at Post 25 Kitchen & Lounge (former location of Black Forest Restaurant) on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
