Obituary For Gilbert Roderick Chambers

Gilbert Roderick Chambers (Gil), age 78 of Candler, NC, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Gil was born on March 12,1946 in Asheville, NC to Paul and Bertie Chambers. He graduated from Asheville High School in 1964.He was proud to have served his country in the US Army for four years.

On April 20, 1968, Gil married Joan (Egan) Chambers. Together they were blessed
with a loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan; his daughter, Jeanine (Anthony) of East Setauket, NY; his daughter Diana (Ralph) of Candler, NC; He was a cherished Poppy to his five grandchildren, Nicole (Tyler),Samantha, Christopher (Alyssa), Kaitlyn and Nicholas and his beautiful greatgranddaughter, Blakely, who always put the biggest smile of his face.

He was a cherished brother-in-law to John and Maryann Egan of Hauppauge, NY and Cathy
and Anthony DeMarinis of Flushing, NY.

He will be missed by all of his nieces and
nephews, who loved him dearly. He will also be missed very much by Danny Wulff, who he thought of as a son and his longtime friend of over 65 years, James(Curly) Christopher.

Gil lived in NY for 20 years where he worked and later owned Ryan’s Tavern and Restaurant in Astoria, Queens. In 1987, he returned to Asheville where he
worked at Magnavox for 10 years. Later he worked as a supervisor at Itech until retirement in 2013.

He was deeply committed to his family, always protective and supportive. He truly enjoyed his life just by being around his family and friends. He loved
NASCAR, shooting, a good poker game, a winning scratch off ticket and a cold Budweiser. Of course anyone that knew Gil, knew his favorite pastime was just simply hanging out in his garage.

He will be deeply missed by his family and everyone that knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on November, 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at the chapel of Mountain View Cremation &Funeral Care

    Frank and I have so many memories of our years working and hanging out at Ryan's Tavern. From working the lunch crowd with Joan & Carl to our own wedding party in the back room when we were all young and carefree. Those were the days, my friend! RIP Gil - Roseann & Frank Forziano
