Obituary For Grady Cranford Garren, Sr.

Grady C. Garren, Sr., 85, of Saluda, NC passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

Grady was born in Henderson County, NC on Friday, January 21, 1938, to the late Charles and Lora Hill Garren. Grady is also preceded in death by his sister, Grace Louise Blackwell and brother, Gerald Garren.

Grady was the owner and founder of Garren’s Trailer Park in Saluda. He purchased the property 1968, turning it into a trailer park which is now owned by his son, Junior, who will continue to carry on his father’s legacy. Grady was a truck driver for many years, hauling produce. Grady also co-owned Cozy Corner Woodyard with his late brother, Gerald. In addition to Grady’s businesses, he also served in the National Guard.

Grady cherished Sheila, his wife, and his family. When Grady wasn’t working hard on his businesses, he enjoyed spending every moment he could with his family. He also loved going on cruises when he had the free time. One of Grady’s favorite activities was doting over his Chihuahuas, Mayet, Boo Bo, Ms. Bear, and Kirby.

Left to cherish Grady’s memories is his wife of almost 10 years, Sheila A. Garren; children, Barbara Hill of Mill Spring, NC, Deborah Gargus (the late Allen Gargus) of Mill Spring, NC, Wilma Gates of Saluda, NC, Junior Garren (Peggy) of Saluda, NC, and Alex Garren of Gramling, SC; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Williams (Bobby) of Meridian, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Grady is also survived by his stepdaughters, Amanda Wagner (Jacob) of Adrian, MI, Amber Ellenwood (Chad) of Adrian, MI, Danielle Sumner (Jason) of Lake Somerset, MI, and Patricia Kimball of Hudson, MI.

A celebration of life will be held at the Dana Community Center at Dana Community Park, 2879 Upward Rd., Flat Rock, NC on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 2PM with Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating.
