Obituary For Lucia Pedraz Hodge

Lucy's pursuit of happiness was found in her love of family, children in the community, raising Malti-poo puppies, and volunteering for the Henderson County Public Schools. She was active in the Miss America Organization for 35+ years; she coached young women for advancement and fundraised for the Miss NC and SC finalist scholarship pageants. She was a volunteer for the Guardian ad Litem program in Henderson County for many years, recipient of the "Order of the Long Leaf Pine" awarded by Governor Jim Hunt in 1985 for her volunteerism, and was a real estate broker. She was recognized for her many years of service providing make-up for Sr Play productions at Hendersonville High School.

On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, she passed away surrounded by her family, after a long illness. She was born to Victor and Marguerite Pedraz Sr in NY, New York, and lived in Miami, FL, Circleville, OH, and Hendersonville, NC. She attended St Mary's Academy, graduated in 1959, and attended Barry University in Miami Shores, FL.

Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Marguerite Pedraz Sr, and her son, James Michael Hodge. Lucy is survived by her brother Victor Pedraz Jr and her children: Vicki Gunning, Beth & Jack Romer, Debbie Hodge (Jeremi Maybin), Mindy Hodge, Bill Hodge (Naomi Pinera-Simon), Joe Hodge and her grandchildren: Tori and Seth Gunning, Grayson and Nicholas Romer, Will, Grant, and Drew Kupec, Marin Hodge, Ella Hodge, and Cassidy McQuartters.

An offering of Mass said in her honor, and a celebration of life is planned in Lake Lure in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lucy's name to the Henderson County Guardian ad Litem Program: NCGAL Advocacy Fund, District 2; mail to NCGAL, 1347 Spartanburg Hwy, Suite 5, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or the Blue Ridge Humane Society at www.blueridgehumane.org or mailed to BRHS 100-B Chadwick Square Court, Hendersonville, NC 28739 and designate "dog food/care in memory of Lucy Hodge."

Dear Beth, What a terrific picture of your mom!! I never had the opportunity to really meet your mom but knew about her through Senior Plays, etc. I'm sorry about your loss and know how difficult it is to lose your mom. Time does heal the wound, but you never stop missing your mom!! Love to you, Sharon Johnson

If you grew up in Hendersonville during the 1970's, you knew and loved Lucy Hodge. I have so many fond memories growing up with the Hodge Clan and Mrs. Hodge always made it fun. Lots of love and prayers to all of her sweet children. Love you Mrs. Hodge!
