Obituary For Martha Young Eaton

Martha Young Eaton, 90, went home to her Savior on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Martha was born in Spartanburg, SC to Lloyd E. Young, Sr, and Lillian Solesbee Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin S. Eaton; siblings, Lloyd Edward Young, Jr, Allie Mae Stepp, Fred “Maxcy” Young, Clifton Young, and Cecil Young.

Martha’s family soon moved to Hendersonville, NC after her birth. Happy childhood memories were made spending summers with her grandparents and extended family around Landrum, SC. She graduated from Flat Rock High School. Martha worked at Jackson Pharmacy and quickly became known by the merchants in town, who soon discovered she had a talent for painting holiday windows. Her faith was so important to her. She met her husband, Ben, at Calvary Baptist Church. Ben and Martha lived and traveled many places with the US Air Force. She loved to talk about her time in Alaska. Martha retired from General Electric in Hendersonville.

Martha had a love of horses that she shared with family and friends. Her children and family remember her love of music. Martha was always singing, humming, or whistling. She was blessed to be part of a large family and loved them all deeply. Her love was visible to co-workers, classmates, and friends. She loved reunions of all kinds, cherishing life-long relationships. After being stricken with Alzheimer’s her caretakers continued to comment on the love and joy she gave to them. God answered the prayers of her children to fill her heart with joy in her last days.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Rhodes, Robin Eaton, Teresa Capps (Bryan), and Jeff Eaton (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Amanda Rhodes, Corey Rhodes (Jessica), Dylan Rhodes, Zeb Penley, Emily Capps, Ian Capps, Bryson Capps, and Colin Eaton; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Grayson Rhodes; siblings, Marguerite Young, David Young, Linda Murdock, and Grace Strickland; aunts, Irene and Vera; and numerous other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Gethsemane Baptist Church at 1315 Old Spartanburg Rd, Hendersonville, NC. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

I want to say thank you for allowing me to get to know your mother. I have always believed you can tell a lot about a person by their eyes, I believe it's a window to see what a person is truly like. One look at Martha you could tell she loved and cared for all around her. She always did let her love for God shine through. Anyone that was able to know Martha was blessed, I am grateful I was oneof those.

I had the pleasure of taking care of Martha at Carolina Reserve. She was strong, determined, and full of so much love. Everytime you called her name she would smile. She filled our hearts with joy and I will always be so thankful that her family shared her with me for the years that her and I were together at the facility. She is definitely an unforgettable woman. ❤️

One can learn much about someone when they work side by side. I worked with this dear lady many a day at G.E. and knew her well. She was a hard worker and faithful. One You loved to work with and could count on to always do her part. To me that says a lot. To me she was always my friend and yes she will be missed. Thank God for this kind of witness. God bless her family at this time.
