Obituary For Mary Jane Price

Mary Price passed away peacefully on January 15 at age 85. She was born Mary Jane Neal on July 22, 1936 to Francis and Margaret Neal and was raised in Lexington Illinois. She was preceded in death by her second daughter, Joni Greene Adreon, and her husband Jim Price.

She married Dick Greene in 1953, and together they raised 4 daughters there. She was a full-time mom until the early 70’s, when she opened her first business, a children’s clothing store in Lexington, which later was moved to a larger space in Normal. She was divorced in the mid70’s and relocated to Florida, where she eventually reestablished her business in Cape Coral. She met Jim Price and they were married in 1989. They moved to Brevard NC in the early 90s, where Mary worked for as Volunteer Coordinator at SAFE’s Attic, a thrift store that provided funding for domestic violence assistance. She retired after 15 years of service. She passed away after several years of declining health.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Cindy Greene Gordon and Melissa Greene, both of NC, and Shelli Greene Sample (Bill) of Florida. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; as well as her three sisters, Phyllis Brown, Evelyn Homan and Janette Neal. She also leaves behind special friends Alan and Claudia Perkinson, with whom she shared decades of laughter and good memories, and Bruce Szelewa, her “son from another mother”, who could always cheer her up with silliness! We will all miss her and are grateful for the good memories we shared with her over the years.

Mary loved travel, especially the beach, and vacationing with her children and their families, and she never stopped loving to laugh!

Thank you to the staff of The Landings of Mills River for all their kindness and care in the final few years of her life.

Sending my love and sympathies to the family & friends. Mary was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. We shared fun and laughter every time we were together. Once we went to a dress rehearsal of The Sound of Music at the music center. We laughed so much we thought they were going to throw us out! There were a lot of things going wrong on the stage and it struck us as hilarious. Mary and I lost tough over the last few years, which I dearly regret, but she will always have a special place in my heart. She always said she believed we were sisters in another life. Love you Mary. Rest in peace. You've earned it. Meda McQueen, friend and former co-worker

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I worked with Mary for 5 years at the Safe Attic. First she was a great mentor and assistant manager to me as the new manager. she became also a friend not just a coworker. Later on she became the volunteer coordinator. Without her tireless effort we would not have been able to run the Safe Attic as we did. Mary was a calming presence in sometimes hectic situations. Mary came to my mind just a few days ago................
