Obituary For Mildred Lillian McLaughlin

Mildred Lillian McLaughlin, 94, of Brevard, NC passed away in Flat Rock, NC on Saturday, August 27, 2022.

Mildred was born in Spartanburg, SC on Wednesday, June 6, 1928, to the late Wilford Lee Chapman and Edna Grace Noblitt (nee Coon). Mildred is also preceded in death by her husband, William Ronald McLaughlin and son, Richard Dolph McLaughlin.

Prior to moving to Brevard, NC, Mildred lived in Landover Hills, MD, Luray, VA, and Washington, DC. She graduated from Central High School in Washington, DC and was very proud of being on the synchronized swim and drill teams. Mildred was an Auditor for the government of the District of Columbia for over 30 years before she retired.

Mildred was very active in various organizations which included the Ladies Auxiliary for the Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department, Prince George's County Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Maryland State Firemen's Association where she held memberships and was active since the 1950s. She was also a member of Job’s Daughters, then Eastern Star. When she wasn’t volunteering and participating in her favorite organizations, she loved to travel! She loved expressing her creativity in her crocheting, cross-stitching, and other crafts. Mildred also enjoyed many activities at College Walk Retirement Community, including Bible Study, educational lectures, music, and calling Bingo. Above all, Mildred deeply cherished her time with family and friends.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Karen Hosford (Michael) of Mechanicsville, VA, and Lynne Sullivan (Shawn) of Pisgah Forest, NC; and nephew, Ralph “Buddy” Morders Jr. (Ada) whom she was very close to. She is also survived by numerous grand-nieces & nephews and great-grand-nieces & nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Bessie Marshall Benefit Fund, C/O Lori Denbow, 103 Brotherton Ct, Havre de Grace, MD 21078 or Four Season’s Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
