GIDDENS, Neil Retired Circulation District Manager of the Tampa Tribune.

Neil Giddens passed away on April 14, 2024 at the age of 93. He was born on January 14,1931, in Lakeland, Florida. He was the son of the late ID Giddens and Daisy Belle Carr, Lakeland, Fl. Neil resided in Lakeland, Florida for 39 years, then moved to Tampa where he lived for 54 years before his final move to Western North Carolina to be close to his son David.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Giddens, NY and loving wife of 67 years, Elsie Louise Giddens.

Neil’s 70 plus years in the newspaper industry proved his dedication and love for his job. He was an avid sports fan and watched it consistently right up to his passing. Neil always had or found time for discussing any genre of sports but especially about his beloved Tampa Bay teams. When not working, Neil loved socializing with his family and friends, traveling with his wife to Newspaper Conventions, and spending time at their beach condo.

He is survived by his son David Neil (Debbie) Giddens, Leicester NC, brother Irbye D. Giddens, Lakeland, Fl., granddaughter Heather (Mike) Sigmon, Florence, Al., grandson Wesley Giddens, Cookeville, TN. and six great-grandchildren Dalton, Macie, Jayden, Darius, Natalie Sigmon and Lennon Giddens.

A graveside gathering at Oak Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Lodge at Mills River or Elizabeth House Hospice
