Obituary For Sidney Lamar Jones
Sidney (Sid) Lamar Jones, of Hendersonville, NC, walked into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 17th, after a brief illness. Sid was preceded in death by his father, Eugene C. Jones, mother, Marion P. Jones, both of Jonesboro, GA, and his loving wife of 50 years, Beverly S. Jones, of Hendersonville, NC. Surviving family members include his sister, Cathy Kuykendall (J.R.) of Wichita Falls, TX, son, Alan Jones (Amanda) of Peachtree City, GA, daughter, Lisa Hill (Travis) of Hendersonville, grandchildren, Julia Adkins (Grant), Tyler Hill, Noah Jones, Micah Jones and Anna Jones, nephew, Scott Bright (Michele), niece, Tracy Farrer, both of Wichita Falls, TX. After earning his engineering degree from General Motors Institute (GMI) in 1963, Sid moved on to work for both Ford and GM. He also served in the National Guard. He always had a genuine passion for aviation, and that passion led him to earn his private pilot’s license. Eventually, he transitioned to working for the FAA in Asheville as an air traffic controller. He ended his working career in Georgia at the Atlanta Journal Constitution as a safety/risk management supervisor. Sid was an extremely kind, loving, compassionate and generous man. He committed a great deal of his time to helping others. He was a man of God, and he loved talking about his wealth of knowledge about the Bible. He loved to do research on anything that caught his attention. Often times he would be researching multiple things simultaneously, and he was always eager to share the knowledge he gained. Sid was extremely intelligent. He was a great story teller with an enjoyable and goofy sense of humor. His gregarious personality drew others to him, and he loved people! Sid enjoyed many different hobbies and leisure activities. He had a passion for the game of golf (a trait which his son and grandsons inherited); he loved looking for golf balls as much as playing! He was also a huge movie fan (Star Wars was his favorite). Sid had a very creative side. He enjoyed producing various types of arts and crafts and even operated a small craft store for a short while to share his creations with the community. Being raised in a Christian home, Sid was always active in church. As an adult, he held many service positions within the church. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville where he served as a Sunday school teacher, security team member and Mother’s Day Out ministry. He was formerly a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta. Sid has touched so many lives. He was sincerely loved and appreciated. He was not a man who wanted attention placed on himself. He was a behind the scenes kind of man. He did not want a funeral or service, but simply wanted people to remember the good times they shared together. Sid also wanted people to know the most important relationship you will ever have is your relationship with Jesus Christ! “Deddy, you will be missed more than you could ever know! We will keep your memory alive through stories we share about our special times with you. You will live on through us and our experiences. We love you very much!” Lisa and Alan
