Obituary For Thore Thoresen, Jr.
Thore Thoresen Jr., 90 of Sarasota, FL passed away on October 5, 2022 in Asheville, NC where the family sought shelter as Hurricane Ian approached the Florida coast. Born in Plainfield, NJ to the late Thore Thoresen Sr. and Jennie Anna Giddes Thoresen, his family relocted to Miami, FL when he was 12 years old.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rhoda Mourant Thoresen; and his son, David; sisters, Anna and Norma; and a brother, Robert Thoresen.
Mr. Thoresen served in the US Army from 1954-1956. He graduated from the University of FL with BA in Commercial Art. He initially built architectural scale models, then developed precast concrete designs for buildings. In the early 70’s he became a structural steel detailer, estimator, and supervisor for the reminder of his career.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Hollywood, FL. In his free time, he enjoyed painting landscapes and buildings, reading history and spiritual books, maps and stamp collecting.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Linda Thoresen and husband Les Archuleta of Sarasota, FL and Jennie Dubosky and husband, Mark of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Wendi Thoresen; grandchildren, Helene Archuleta and husband Julio Sanchez, Shane Archuleta and Calvin Thoresen; great-granddaughter, Harmony Sanchez; a sister, Charlotte Thoresen of N. Miami Beach; and numerous nieces, nephews and their family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:45pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Hollywood Memorial Gardens (Fred Hunters) in Hollywood, FL. This will be an informal gathering of family and friends. Attendees are encouraged to share memories/stories, poems, and prayers.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at St. James Episcopal Church in Hollywood, FL. Father Erroll Harvey will officiate.
